Mark McCarter, LEED®AP
Senior Project Designer
“…useful art of architecture achieves its greatest potential when it is most beautifully attuned not only to spectacular special needs but also to the undramatic and even intimate everyday needs of people when they are functioning individually or in groups.” – Ralph Erskine
Mark earned an Associate of Arts & Sciences from Olympic College and a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Architecture from the University of Washington. His project design experience includes private single-family homes, mixed-use retail and housing developments, master-planned communities, community centers, fire stations, municipal and industrial facilities, K-12 and higher education projects.
Mark’s parents greatly shaped his continuing passion for Architecture. As a child, he was first introduced to freehand drawing by his father. He remembers being encouraged to draw after watching his father carefully sketch the airplane he flew in as a U.S. Naval Communications Officer. In 1997, Mark took his first trip with his mother to their ancestral farming village in the Philippines. It was here that he was inspired to dedicate his career to cultural understanding, sustaining the environment, and improving the quality of life for people and places. Away from the office, Mark enjoys playing tennis, biking, renovating his home, and spending time with family and friends.
After initially working with Rolluda + Scott Architects in 2001, Mark worked for a variety
of local firms before returning to join Rolluda Architects in December 2016. He is currently
working on the Showalter Middle School Modernization & Addition project in Tukwila
and the Ancich Park Boat Storage Building project in Gig Harbor.
