filipino village | filipino community of seattle
The Filipino Community of Seattle (FCS) hired Rolluda Architects to provide a master plan for the construction of a new mixed-use project in South Seattle, adjacent to the Rainier Valley and Beacon Hill neighborhoods. FCS supports the elders and youth in the surrounding communities and serves neighborhoods as far north as Shoreline and south as Tacoma, as well as community groups including Vietnamese, African American, Samoan, Chinese, Japanese and many more.
The project consists of a community center for social programs, affordable housing that includes senior housing and housing for individuals and families, commercial space for retail, all requiring sustainability principles in the design process and products, providing residents and users with a healthy environment.
Rolluda Architects provided programming and design sessions with the various organizations within the community.
We used inclusive and interactive exercises in the programming phase in order to engage FCS constituents, keep them informed and provide them ownership of the process and design. Our programming methods were tailored in order that all voices were heard and critical information was mined.
