As a consultant to KPFF Engineering, architectural design elements were provided for the development of an 800-stall park and ride facility in the northeast quadrant of the Pacific Highway South and South 276th Street, Federal Way, WA. The components included the Drivers Restroom and Transit Shelters. The Park and Ride consists of pedestrian walkway corridors, parking stalls, curbing and driveways, perimeter and interior landscaping, demolition of existing buildings and interior and perimeter lighting. The Transit Center has loading and layover zones, four shelters which incorporates Metro’s standards, a restroom and a custodial closet.

The City intended for this Park and Ride facility to serve as the northern gateway into the City. To address this desire, Rich worked closely with the project artists to develop a concept that gives the transit island visual presence along Pacific Highway South. Architecturally, this involved modifying the standard Metro shelter design and incorporating a column feature to unify transit island elements.
