The Federal Way Recreation and Community Center stands as the City’s premier civic signature, serving as a vibrant hub for health, wellness, and community connection. Spanning 70,000 sf, this state-of-the-art facility integrates a diverse array of athletic and social spaces designed for residents of all ages. Fitness enthusiasts benefit from a comprehensive gymnasium, dedicated weights and cardiovascular training areas, an aerobic and dance studio, and an elevated indoor running track. Adding a dynamic element to the central atrium, a striking two-story climbing wall challenges climbers of all skill levels.

The center also boasts an expansive aquatics complex featuring both a competitive lap pool and a recreational leisure pool, fully supported by modern restrooms, shower facilities, and spacious locker rooms. Beyond athletics, the facility acts as a multi-generational gathering place. It includes versatile event rooms, educational classrooms, a lively game room, and a dedicated senior center, alongside the essential administrative offices required to manage daily operations.

Richard Murakami played a pivotal role in bringing this landmark project to life. He deeply engaged with the Federal Way community through public outreach initiatives to ensure the design reflected local needs. Richard then translated that community vision into reality, guiding the project through its design phases and providing steadfast construction administration services to ensure the highest standards of execution.
