Located within the Ellensburg National Historic District, the historic 1889 Stewart Building serves as the permanent home for Gallery One, a vibrant, community-based non-profit art gallery and cultural center. This comprehensive rehabilitation project successfully revitalized the late Victorian masonry structure into a dynamic hub for the local arts, blending historical stewardship with modern utility. The facility houses an expansive art gallery, a dedicated retail gallery store, a fully equipped ceramics studio, flexible classrooms, and private studio spaces for local artists, all supported by optimized administrative and utility areas.

Architecturally, the scope of work centered on a meticulous restoration of the primary facade, reviving its ornate cornices, historic window configurations, and structural brick and stone masonry elements. A key design highlight involved the complete reconstruction of the building's missing historic storefronts, utilizing archival research to accurately recreate the original streetscape presence. Beyond aesthetic preservation, the project integrated critical infrastructure upgrades, including comprehensive seismic retrofitting, entirely new mechanical and electrical systems, and full accessibility compliance throughout the two-story layout. Celebrating its high standard of architectural excellence and community impact, the completed project was honored with the Historic Preservation Award by Historic Ellensburg.
