RTC engages a diverse student population, and equity and inclusion are at the heart of the school’s mission. The Unity Center was created to provide an inclusive, safe space for students of all identities and backgrounds. This facility is a conversion of 3,400 sf of classrooms and tutoring rooms in Building D into a new center consisting of open study area, associated offices, and a conference room.

RAI oversaw the architectural predesign, design, and provided construction support services for the Unity Center. We facilitated programming exercises with user groups to identity space needs, determine relationships between program spaces, and define a vision and goals for the center. The project was guided by the following goals:

• Cultivation of identity and branding through thoughtful design elements

• Optimization of natural light integration within the spaces

• Establishment of a safe and secure environment to cater to the needs of the center’s occupants
