Led by Rolluda Architects, this vital modernization project revitalized the Echo Glen Children's Center with a focus on historical preservation, energy efficiency, and aesthetic renewal. Because the facility had not undergone a major renovation since its original construction in 1967, Rolluda spearheaded a comprehensive scope of work to transform the aging infrastructure into a safe, sustainable, and highly functional environment optimized for therapeutic treatment programs. Energy efficiency and environmental comfort served as core drivers for the upgrades. The design team oversaw the replacement of outdated windows and doors within the dining hall to improve thermal performance, while simultaneously modernizing the lighting systems in both the seating and serving areas. To optimize indoor air quality and achieve code compliance, the kitchen received a new rooftop exhaust fan, new cooling coils, and an upgraded ventilation system. Beyond mechanical improvements, the renovation prioritized safety, durability, and operational longevity. Decayed exterior concrete steps were meticulously repaired to eliminate pedestrian hazards and secure the main entrance. Inside, failing door hardware was completely replaced to restore proper life-cycle functionality. The interior spaces underwent a complete refurbishment, introducing maintenance-friendly, modernized finishes and advanced acoustic treatments designed to mitigate noise levels. Together, these thoughtful interventions successfully balanced structural preservation with the contemporary demands of a specialized care facility.
